Admiral Jellicoe Nursing Home - UK
The brief was to create a woodlands mural and an English nostalgic beach mural for the dementia floor corridor area
The Beach Design: With the ages of the residents in mind, ATADesigns researched and through illustration created nostalgic memory pieces — 1950s-style candy floss, lollipops, rock sweets, ice cream, fish and chips signage with beach huts, sun umbrellas, beach balls, buckets and spades and deckchairs set on a long stretch of sandy beach, overlooking a light blue sea with sailboats, houses and mountains in the distance. A detailed Portsmouth Pier illustration was included to set the scene.
As Admiral Jellicoe House is situated in Portsmouth, it was crucial to feature Portsmouth Pier as a landmark in the design. The beach design was personalised with a sign within the mural reading "Admiral Jellicoe Beach".
The mural is installed at the end of a corridor featuring built-in seating and cushions by the windows — a perfect spot for residents to sit and quietly reflect while enjoying the mural design.
The Woodlands Design: The initial brief was to create a beach mural only. The Care Home Manager was so impressed with the beach design that she then asked ATADesigns to create a woodlands mural for the first part of the corridor — to lead into the beach mural as if walking through the woodlands to reach the beach.
Two woodland designs were created featuring large trees in green spaces with flowers and birds, overlooking the sea that links to the beach design, with houses in the distance set against a blue sky. The woodlands design was personalised with a sign reading "Admiral Jellicoe Beach" with an arrow pointing towards the beach mural.
The woodland murals are installed in the first part of the corridor, with artificial trees and two garden sofas leading down to the beach mural area.
