Some projects stay with you long after the work is done. The outdoor mural commission for St Lukes Hospital in Oxford is one of those projects.
The brief was both simple and deeply thoughtful: to design a garden mural for the exterior wall outside the hospital bedroom windows — so that patients on the upper floors could still enjoy the view of a garden, even when they couldn't be in one.
The Concept
Working closely with the client, we designed a bespoke garden scene inspired by St Lukes Hospital's own existing garden — familiar, comforting and full of life. Lush planting, a classic brick archway with iron gates, garden furniture dappled in light — and in the distance, the unmistakable Oxford skyline, with its iconic spires rising above the treeline.
The result is a mural that feels both personal and timeless. A view that belongs to this place. 🌿
The Project
The mural was designed to be installed on the exterior wall of the building — fully weather-resistant and built to last. Working with our trusted collaborator Wallsmiths, who consulted and managed the project from brief to completion, we were able to bring the full vision to life. As this was an outdoor installation requiring specialist materials, outdoor print and installation was carried out by Carbon Colour — and the finished result was everything we had hoped for.
Transforming what was previously a blank brick wall into something truly special. 🌿

The Response
The reaction from staff and patients said it all.
"We are incredibly pleased with the mural design; it adds character and something enjoyable to look at in an otherwise bland brick wall space. Everyone involved was a pleasure to work with."
— Josh Peake, Facilities Manager
"I can say that we are pleased with the results. I can give you a feedback from the first carer to go into the bedroom to draw the curtains after the workmen had finished — 'Wow, that's beautiful.'"
— Richard Burden, CEO
