The Brief
When East London NHS Foundation Trust commissioned ATADesigns to create bespoke corridor murals for Fountains Court, the starting point was the community itself. With residents coming from the Bedford and Luton areas, the brief was clear — design murals that reflect the places, people and spirit of where they call home.
Working alongside a community panel who shared their ideas and local knowledge, ATADesigns created a series of mural illustrations that bring the outside world in — familiar, joyful and full of life.

Bedford River Festival — Mural One
The first mural takes its inspiration from the much-loved Bedford River Festival — one of the largest free riverside events in the UK. The illustration captures the energy and warmth of a summer's day on the River Great Ouse; rowers gliding across the water, kites soaring above the park, families gathered on the grass, dogs on leads, children playing and canal boats drifting by. Bedford's iconic suspension bridge frames the scene in the background, with the town's skyline and church spire rising beyond the treeline.
Every detail has been considered — from the tulip beds in the foreground to the magpies perched on the fountain plinth. It is a mural that celebrates community, diversity and the simple joy of being together outdoors.
Installed at Fountains Court
The mural was printed and installed by Wallsmiths, ATADesigns' long-standing print and installation partner, who specialise in large-scale wallcovering projects for the healthcare and hospitality sectors. Installed in the corridor reception area at Fountains Court, the mural creates a welcoming, familiar environment for residents — a window onto a world they know and love.

A Collaborative Approach
This project is a wonderful example of what can be achieved when design, print and community come together. ATADesigns worked closely with a resident panel throughout the design process, ensuring the mural truly reflects the people it was made for.
